Salcombe North Sands

Salcombe North Sands is located on the northern side of Salcombe, just outside the main town area and within the sheltered waters of the Kingsbridge Estuary. It sits at the end of a residential area and is one of the closest beaches to the town centre. The beach has a contained and accessible character, with calm water conditions and a more enclosed setting compared to the open coastline nearby.

The beach is mainly sandy, with fine sand forming a gently sloping shoreline. It is relatively small but usable, particularly at lower tide levels when more sand is exposed. At high tide, the beach area is reduced, and the shoreline reaches the back of the beach. The surrounding area includes low cliffs, residential properties and access to coastal paths. North Sands is known for its sheltered waters and ease of access, making it a practical option for short visits close to Salcombe.

Access is straightforward via a road from Salcombe, though it is narrow in places and can become congested during peak periods. Limited parking is available near the beach, and additional parking is located further back towards the town. Facilities include a café, toilets and nearby services within Salcombe itself. The beach is reached directly from the road, with minimal walking required, making it one of the more accessible beaches in the area.

Salcombe North Sands is suitable for families, swimming, paddling and low-impact water activities. The sheltered conditions make it appropriate for calmer water use rather than surfing. It is most usable at mid to low tide when more sand is available, as space becomes restricted at high tide. The beach can be visited throughout the year, with summer offering the most consistent conditions and full access to facilities. Care should still be taken with tidal changes and limited space at peak times.
