Bucks Mills Beach

Bucks Mills Beach is located on the North Devon coast between Peppercombe and Clovelly, within a small coastal village set into a narrow valley. The beach lies at the end of a steep lane that descends from the village to the shoreline. It has a quiet and relatively undeveloped character, with limited visitor numbers compared to more accessible beaches in the area.

The beach is mainly composed of pebbles and shingle, with some rock platforms and patches of sand visible at lower tide levels. It is relatively small and enclosed by low cliffs and rocky headlands, creating a contained bay. A small stream runs through the valley and reaches the sea across the beach. The surrounding landscape includes wooded slopes and open coastal views, and the area is known for its geology and rock formations rather than for traditional beach use.

Access is via a steep road through Bucks Mills village, with limited parking available near the top of the hill and in small roadside spaces. The final section to the beach is on foot, following the road down to the shoreline. There are no facilities directly on the beach, and services in the village are minimal. Visitors need to be prepared for basic conditions and a short but steep return walk from the beach to the parking area.

Bucks Mills Beach is best suited to walking, exploring and rock pooling, particularly at low tide when more of the shoreline and rock platforms are exposed. It is not a surfing beach and offers limited space for sitting or sunbathing due to its size and surface. Swimming is possible in calm conditions, though there is no lifeguard cover and the beach is exposed to changing sea conditions. The beach is most accessible at lower tide levels and can be visited throughout the year, with weather and ground conditions influencing the experience.
